We’re conditioned to believe that happiness is always just around the corner—that once we get through this stressful week, this season of life, or this current challenge, we’ll finally be at peace. Many of us were even taught that suffering today ensures a reward in the afterlife, reinforcing the idea that true joy is something we must wait for. But the truth is, when we’re always focused on what’s next, we miss the only thing that actually exists: right now.
The Illusion of “Someday”
There’s always a someday we’re chasing. Someday when things are easier. Someday when we feel more ready. Someday when we have the money, the time, or the perfect circumstances. But here’s the thing—someday is an illusion.

A deep conversation with someone you love. The more we pay attention, the more we realize that joy was never missing—it was just buried under distraction and expectation.
Try this: Every night, write down one moment from your day that made you feel good. The more you do this, the more you train your brain to recognize joy in the present.

Stop Rushing Through Life
We’re always in a hurry—to finish work, to get through the to-do list, to make it to the next big thing. But what are we rushing toward, really? Slow down. Be where you are. Life isn’t waiting for you at some future milestone. It’s here.
Try this: Next time you eat, walk, or listen to music, do it slowly. Pay attention. Be present in the experience.
Let Go of the “Perfect Timing” Myth
There is no perfect time to start living. No magic moment when everything will align just right. Stop waiting for permission. Stop waiting for the circumstances to be ideal. Start now.
Try this: Identify one thing you’ve been putting off and take a small step toward it today.
Shift from “What’s Missing?” to “What’s Present?”
